The Type 79 and Type 85 sniper scopes are Chinese copies of the Russian PSO-1 scope. The PSO-1 scope was reversed engineered along side the SVD rifle and put into production by China with only minor modiciations to the design. Most scopes show either the 833 factory code or no factory code at all.

The scope is sometimes also called the Type JJJ or Type RS101 due to markings that are found on some scopes. The JJJ markings are possibly short for Jūjī Jìng the pinyin of 狙击镜 (sniper scope). The meaning behind RS101 is unknown.

It appears that since around 2010 Myanmar has begun importing scopes from China for use on their domestic DMR rifles, although it is also possible Myanamr is producing its own copy.
